It has largely been a frustrating time on the title front. There were a few steps forward but then a few more back. Fortunately, there is still plenty of time between now and the season's final day at Sandown on April 25.

The comeback could hardly have started better. After the two Musselburgh winners last Thursday I got on the scoresheet at Newbury the following day and then made the most of rerouting from there to Doncaster on Saturday by riding a winner there as well. So far so good.

Things were not so good on Sunday at Sedgefield. I partnered Strong Glance, a lovely young horse trained by Olly Murphy, in the novice hurdle. There were only four runners and I was on the 1-5 favourite. All appeared to be as I would have wished leaving the back straight but on gruelling ground my horse could not reel in the leader. That leader was ridden by Brian Hughes.
