Guineas formlines have been strong all season - and they could be crucial again at the Breeders' Cup
Richard Hannon called it early. “Probably the best Guineas in ten years,” he said immediately after the disappointment of seeing Rosallion and Haatem beaten into second and third behind Notable Speech in the 2,000 Guineas. How right he was.
The Newmarket colts’ Classic has been one of the best form guides of the season, and so for that matter has the fillies’ version. Nor has the influence shown any signs of waning, which is well worth bearing in mind when it comes to the Breeders’ Cup Mile on Saturday.
The betting is headed by Notable Speech and close behind him are Porta Fortuna and Ramatuelle, who were just beaten in a tight finish to the 1,000. All three have won Group 1s since the Guineas, and so have six others who competed in the Newmarket Classics. It is an impressive body of work.
