One of the most foolproof racing systems again delivered this year – back Venetia Williams-trained handicap chasers in November.
And, had you used some artistic licence and also supported some of her chasers in conditions races – Royale Pagaille in the Betfair Chase and Djelo in the Peterborough Chase spring to mind – and cottoned on to the fact Charlie Deutsch got down to 10st 2lb to ride December Gold Cup winner Gemirande, you would have topped up your profits just in time for Christmas. Provided, of course, your bookmaker of choice was willing to accommodate your desired stake (never easy these days).
Williams' big-race winning streak is testament to her training skills, something Julian Muscat elaborated on in these pages last week, but let's not forget the man in the saddle, a key factor in the recent success.
