Faugheen wasn't bad, was he? The Machine ended his career with just the 11 Grade 1 victories to his name, including a Champion Hurdle. Istabraq won three of those and, according to our very own historian John Randall, he remains "the only great champion Aidan O'Brien has ever trained".
Simonsig was a smasher and probably didn't fulfil his potential, but Hardy Eustace definitely did. Nicanor beat Denman; Samcro was supposed to be the second coming of Jesus Christ once upon a time; so, too, was Bob Olinger.
Envoi Allen, meanwhile, has now won nine Grade 1s after his thrilling victory in last weekend's Ladbrokes Champion Chase at Down Royal. By the way, have you ever known a horse, or even a human, to go from being so grossly overrated to being massively underrated as much as he has? He's a three-time Cheltenham Festival winner under three different disciplines. There aren't many of those around the place.
