All I want for Christmas is Mr Vango to win the Welsh Grand National for Sara Bradstock
In a sport taken over by superpowers, victory for a smaller yard at Chepstow would be more than heartwarming
What's on your Christmas list? Sunderland's sumptuous away shirt was top of mine, but after the weekend it’s been replaced by Welsh Grand National glory for Mr Vango and Sara Bradstock.
It's the time for festive cheer but sadly there hasn't been much joy for the Bradstock yard during the year following the death of popular trainer and Sara's husband, Mark, in March. A poignant win for her in Wales's greatest race would be a fitting end to 2024, but also one we need on the big stage for the smaller trainers.
Bradstock opened up last week about the "terrifying" challenge her string faces at the moment. A Cheltenham Gold Cup, Hennessy Gold Cup and bet365 Gold Cup-winning yard once graced with between 15 and 20 horses has dwindled to six.
