It's been ten long years of Irish dominance at Cheltenham - but I think the Brits might just have the edge in 2025
It's been ten long years since Britain won the Prestbury Cup at the Cheltenham Festival and over the past few years the Anglo-Irish competition has become a total irrelevance, but recent events have made me think that the rivalry is back on. It certainly wouldn't be a surprise if the home team came out on top this year.
Think about it. Before Christmas the Champion Hurdle market was dominated by Lossiemouth and State Man but Constitution Hill is now firmly the one to beat again after his Christmas Hurdle success.
Then there was Sir Gino absolutely pulverising what was one of the Irish bankers in the Wayward Lad Novices' Chase at Kempton. He's now odds-on for the Arkle, while runner-up Ballyburn wouldn't be on my radar for any race at Cheltenham on what he showed.
