Going to the paddock is an essential part of the raceday experience for me, which meant I breathed a sigh of relief at Windsor reversing its egregious decision to cut off access to the area for part of its crowd.

Personal preferences drive paddock assessment to a greater or lesser extent, and much of the time you could say that there is not much to divide the horses in the ring prior to them competing.

When horses do stand out – particularly those who simply look classier individuals than those they are competing against – it is extremely useful information.
