A share in a syndicate horse is the perfect Christmas gift - as my mum can vouch
If you are in doubt about what to get a loved one this year, give syndicate ownership a try - you won't regret it
It is a Christmas morning tradition in my family that a stunned silence descends whenever my mum begins opening presents from my dad. He has had some wacky and frankly terrible ideas in the past (sponsoring a dolphin in her name was a personal highlight) but two years ago he hit the jackpot with the purchase of a share in an Owners Group horse.
Quaresome, in training with Donald McCain, won't exactly be winning the Gold Cup any time soon – a victory of any sort would be a bonus at the moment – but he is a source of great joy and pride whenever he runs, win or lose.
For my parents, the experience is much less about any potential monetary gain that would come with prize-money anyway and more the feeling of excitement they get in the build-up to a race. Watching Quaresome stride to victory on his hurdling debut at Musselburgh last year is a day they will not forget in a hurry.
