A promise was made to Irish racing - so why are we still waiting four years on?

Four years. It's the length of time between Olympic Games, the span of an American presidential term and, unfortunately, how long Irish racing has been waiting on the promise of sectional timing technology to be delivered.

In the aftermath of signing a valuable five-year media rights contract with Horse Racing Ireland back in 2016, SIS announced it would implement new in-running GPS tracking technology at every Irish track, describing the move as having the potential to "fundamentally change how punters bet on racing forever".

In mid-November 2016, HRI said the systems were on course to be in place by the following New Year's Day, but a disappointing delay to the rollout has continued ever since.
