One trainer, one jockey, one horse and one race to watch on Saturday

Trainer

Richard Hannon has enjoyed many memorable days at Goodwood over the years, and the trainer could be in for another big day on the South Downs.

Hannon saddles the strongly fancied Happy Romance in the Group 3 Ladbrokes Prestige Stakes (1.50), and Urban Icon, his representative in the Group 2 Ladbrokes Celebration Mile (3.35) isn’t without a chance either.

A host of runners in the supporting handicaps, including Magical Wish, who is the likely favourite for the 7f handicap (2.25), means he has a plethora of chances at one of his favourite venues.

Jockey

William Buick is making a bold bid for the jockeys’ title, and it will be a surprise if he doesn’t enhance his claims from seven rides at Newmarket.

Pitcher’s Point, his final ride of the afternoon, could have got into the 1m2f handicap (4.30) lightly on a mark of 82, and looks the one to take the most interest in.

Horse

Fox Chairman has always been held in high regard by trainer Andrew Balding. Things haven’t quite gone the four-year-old's way so far this season, but Windsor’s Group 3 Gallagher Group Winter Hill Stakes (3.15) rates an excellent opportunity.

The son of Kingman, who was sent off at 7-1 for the Queen Anne Stakes won by Circus Maximus in June, chased home Aspetar in Group 2 company at York last time, and appears to hold standout claims in this lower-class event.

Race

The Group 2 Ladbrokes Celebration Mile Stakes (3.35) at Goodwood may lack a genuine standout performer this year, but that doesn’t detract from the competitive nature of the mile contest won in the past by the likes of Poet's Voice and Lightning Spear.

Benbatl, winner of two Group 2 events at Meydan during the winter, returns from a 182-day absence under Oisin Murphy.

Goodwood winners Duke Of Hazzard, Regal Reality and Sir Busker will each have their supporters, while Urban Icon ran well over course and distance in the Golden Mile last time.
