Odd couple: Bryony Frost to link up with Sheikh Hamdan at Bath on Wednesday

Golden girl Bryony Frost, who has ridden for some of the biggest names in jumping, turns her attention to the Flat at Bath on Wednesday when she partners a runner for leading Flat owner Hamdan Al Maktoum in preparation for the Dubai International Arabian Races at Newbury this month.

Frost, who grew up in deepest Devon and is the daughter of 1989 Grand National-winning rider Jimmy, has quickly become one of jump racing's most recognisable faces due to her talent in the saddle and charisma on screen.

She recorded her biggest win at the Cheltenham Festival in March when landing the Ryanair Chase on her old ally Frodon and was crowned champion conditional for the 2018-19 season a few months later.

However, she will have something different to contend with at Bath on Wednesday evening when she gets the leg up the James Owen-trained five-year-old Jaahez in the 1m2f Al Gheesah Beach Handicap Stakes (5.40).

Attached to champion trainer Paul Nicholls' yard, Frost has had a handful of rides on the Flat, but has yet to partner a winner.

She said: "The Dubai International Arabian Races is an awesome day out with top-class racing and loads of entertainment for all the family. I'm really looking forward to being a part of it.

"Riding Arabians competitively for the first time will be a challenge but I've had lots of help and advice from James and Richard Hills and I can't wait."

Newbury's annual Arab raceday on Sunday July 28, for which admission is free, is one of the key highlights in the sport's calendar and features free prize draws, competitions and family attractions along with eight races.

Frost spent time at Owen's Newmarket yard recently and added: "Arabians are real characters, they're very intelligent and really switched on. You have to take them through their gears slowly and make sure you say please and thank you but once you get them there they really start to roll."

"It will be a real honour to step out in the famous blue and white silks of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan and I'm thrilled to have been invited to ride."

The 24-year-old will be back in more familiar territory this month when she is due to link up with the Nicholls-trained Black Corton in thetote.com Galway Plate on July 31.
