O'Brien reveals rush to Killarney to be beside sister Ana

Joseph O'Brien on Thursday recounted his dash to Killarney to be beside his sister Ana following her fall at the track on Tuesday evening.

The trainer, who was listening to commentary of the race from home, drove straight to the course before heading to Cork University Hospital, where his sister had been airlifted to following lengthy attention from medical officers on duty.

O'Brien said: “My television was broken so I couldn't actually watch the race. I was listening to it and I knew fairly quickly that it was a very bad fall.

"I jumped in the car straight away and headed for Killarney as fast as I could. Then I went on to Cork and met them there. She's been very, very lucky.”

O'Brien released a statement on Wednesday night on behalf of the family confirming his sister had suffered fractured vertebrae and facial injuries, but her brain scan was clear.

He added on At The Races: “Ana is in great form today, thank God.

"It's very hard to articulate our gratitude to everyone who has helped her, from everyone at the track in Killarney to the Order of Malta to the doctors. She's got amazing treatment and we'll be forever grateful."
