Next stop Doncaster for Murphy's classy Kalashnikov

Amy Murphy is hoping to return her exciting unbeaten novice Kalashnikov to Yorkshire next month following his devastating hurdling debut at Wetherby last Saturday.

The son of Kalanisi was backing up his impressive win in a bumper at the track in March when slamming favourite Al Shahir by ten lengths to earn a quotes of 33-1 with Paddy Power for the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham.

Murphy, Newmarket's youngest trainer, said: "We were not surprised by the ease of Kalashnikov's win at Wetherby and there were a few fancied in it so it was a good effort.

"There have been a few offers for the horse since but he's not for sale and he looks an exciting prospect. The plan would be to run him under a penalty in a similar race at Doncaster on December 2 and take it from there."

Before his win at Wetherby, Kalashnikov was a major player at Murphy's first ever owners' open day where the star attraction was a Shetland Pony called Rita.

Rita is a key character at Hamilton Stables as she does sterling work box-sharing with the quirkier types and is currently housed with Flat handicapper Thaqaffa.

Rita was on the end of a parade of around 20 Flat and jump horses and among the onlookers were ITV racing presenter Francesca Cumani and her mother Sara. Murphy, 25, previously worked as an assistant to Luca Cumani before branching out last year.

Murphy could also be about to get some exposure in the world of Rugby League as fan and owner Rosie Grensinger has named her unraced Flat hope The Wire Flyer after the nickname of the RL side the Warrington Wolves.

The two-year-old son of Champs Elysees is expected to run shortly and Lancashire-based Grensinger is hoping to get some of the players involved.

She said: "I've made a few inquiries and there is already plenty of interest. I'm a big fan of 'The Wire' and it will be fantastic to see the horse on the track."

On the day as a whole, Murphy added: "It was a great turnout in great weather and hopefully we may have sold a few shares in some of the yearlings. Rita was the star of the show, which is why she was on at the end."
