Mulrennan lands the Hunt Cup on 66-1 shot Redarna on route to a 1289-1 treble

Dianne Sayer celebrated the biggest win of her training career after Redarna rolled back the years to produce a shock at 66-1 in the Thirsk Hunt Cup.

The eight-year-old defied his outsider status to storm to success in the Yorkshire track's feature race of the year, rattling home with a fast finish to score by a length under Paul Mulrennan.

Sayer told Racing TV: "He always gives his best, he's arrived and knows what his job is and got on with it. I'm absolutely delighted. When we were drawn 15 I thought that's that, but Paul said the more he took him back the more he wanted to go. It's just fabulous.

"I thought we were the pensioner here, but he hasn't forgotten how to do it. He's loving life and doesn't have that many miles on the clock. When he comes to the races he knows what he's doing."

Redarna's success was the middle leg of a 1289-1 treble for Mulrennan, who was also victorious in the opening 5f novice on Zuffolo and aboard Wor Willie in the 1m6f handicap.

However, there was a sting in the tail for Mulrennan, who was suspended for two days for careless riding following his win on Redarna.

Freddie goes in again

Ready Freddie Go maintained his perfect record at the track with a narrow victory in the 5f handicap.

The Ollie Pears-trained four-year-old made it four wins from four starts over course and distance when getting up in a thrilling three-way finish by a short-head under Harry Russell.
