Mullins, Nicholls, Skelton, Williams: transformed Fast Buck bounces back to form
Wednesday: Lingfield
When a horse has passed through Willie Mullins, Paul Nicholls and Dan Skelton you would be forgiven for thinking his winning days were over but it was not the case for Fast Buck, who ran out a ten-length winner of the feature 2m handicap chase under Jamie Moore.
The eight-year-old was having his fourth start for Jane Williams after changing hands for £15,000 in March and the trainer admitted it gave her a rare buzz to see the 20-1 shot in the winner's enclosure.
"It does give you a particularly good feeling," she said. "You have to be mentally competitive and sometimes it's nice to get one right. Us smaller trainers have to think we can compete."
The victory was the result of a generous dollop of teamwork, as Jane's son Chester purchased the horse and head lad Barry Murphy has been instrumental in his transformation.
"Chester deserves plenty of credit and Barry Murphy too because when we got him home he turned into a difficult horse," Williams added. "He wasn't an easy ride, so we had to do something completely different.
"He very rarely goes on the gallop and we can't beat those big trainers with their facilities, so we just tried to make him a happy horse and think outside the box."
Hawke double
Nigel Hawke is hitting form just in time for Christmas as The Imposter followed up his win at the course last month to take the 2m7f novice handicap hurdle under Tom Buckley, completing an across-the-card double for the Devon-based trainer after Some Detail's stout triumph at Taunton.
