Missing Royal Ascot? Don't worry, just look at the action still to come
There might not be five days of top-class action from Royal Ascot to watch this week, but there is still lots of exciting racing to get your pulse racing. Here are some of the top treats on offer. . .
Monday
Jump racing fans may not have been too excited for Royal Ascot beyond the Queen Alexandra Stakes and cheering home Alan King's winners, but there is plenty for them to get excited about this week.
Limerick is the setting for the return of jump racing in Ireland, with another jumps card scheduled at Roscommon on Wednesday. Moving forward, jump racing in Britain is due to return next Wednesday at Southwell.
Flat racing in England and Wales may have already returned, but Scotland has taken a little longer. However, the wait is over, with a card at Ayr on Monday, closely followed by action from Hamilton on Wednesday.
Tuesday
Welsh racing recognises one of its own at Chepstow, with the David Probert 1,000 Winners And Counting Maiden (7.10). Sadly the jockey does not have a ride in the race.
As well as Chepstow, there are meetings at Beverley, Kempton and Navan.
Wednesday
The first of a two-day fixture begins at Haydock, while Hamilton stages its first meeting of the year, and Roscommon gives Irish jumps fans another boost.
The Listed Eternal Stakes (3.15) is the highlight at Haydock, and should feature some talented fillies with Althiqa, Jovial and Stylistique among the entries.
Bath also makes a welcome return to the calendar in the evening. Conditions will likely be on the quick side at the Somerset track.
Friday
The first of three days at the Curragh contains the Curragh Apprentice Derby, a nice appetiser for the Classic action over the weekend at the course.
In Britain, there are fixtures at Doncaster, Lingfield and Newmarket.
Saturday
It is Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby day at the Curragh. Aidan O'Brien has won the race six times since 2010, and the betting suggests a seventh could be on the cards, with the trainer responsible for the first six in the market.
There is Group 3 action at Newmarket courtesy of the Criterion Stakes, with Lingfield and Redcar also in action. ITV will be showing the big-race highlights from Newcastle and Newmarket.
Sunday
The Premier League may have returned, but Sunday's racing in Britain and Ireland is arguably more deserving of the 'Super' moniker.
There is Group 1 action from the Curragh again with the Pretty Polly Stakes, plus a feast of Pattern action at Newmarket and Windsor, with the tracks staging two Listed races apiece. ITV4 will be showing all those contests and more as part of a nine-race broadcast.
Next month
Pubs may be set to re-open on July 4, but a strong case can be made to stay in and watch the racing on the opening weekend of the month, with a blockbuster card at Epsom, featuring the Investec Derby and Oaks. Then on Sunday we are due to see two-time Arc heroine Enable back in action at Sandown in the Eclipse.
