Richard Budge, the mining entrepreneur and racehorse owner, has died after a nine-year battle with prostate cancer. He was 69.

Budge was the younger brother of Tony Budge, who was one of Britain's biggest owners with a string of 60 horses and a leading race sponsor until his business went into receivership in 1992.

Richard Budge operated on a smaller scale, enjoying 35 winners between 2006 and 2011 which were trained from a yard he owned near Doncaster by Vicky Haigh and Deborah Sanderson.
