Martin Harley granted temporary three-month licence to ride in Hong Kong
Martin Harley is looking forward to riding on the other side of the world having been granted a temporary licence by the Hong Kong Jockey Club.
Harley has been given a three-month licence which starts on February 7, and will be experiencing Hong Kong for the first time.
"I've never been to Hong Kong and I'm looking forward to it," he said on Wednesday. "I'm excited by the new challenge and hopefully it will be good for my career."
As well getting to experience taking on different jockeys round Sha Tin and Happy Valley, the trip could be a lucrative one for Harley given the prize-money on offer in Hong Kong.
By way of comparison the feature 6f handicap for Kempton's twilight card on Tuesday is worth £6,469 to the winner. For Happy Valley's eight-race card on Tuesday, the two least valuable races offer £39,369 to the winner.
Harley added: "The prize-money is massive there and hopefully it will pay off."
Weighing room colleague Ryan Moore regularly jets round the world for rides, including Hong Kong, and Harley has sought his advice.
"I had a chat with Ryan about what it is like and he said to work hard, try and get on one early and make your own luck," Harley said.
There will be at least one familiar face for Harley when he touches down in Hong Kong, with Silvestre de Sousa also riding there this winter. De Sousa has fared well, with 22 winners so far leaving him tied for fifth in the jockeys' standings.
