In from the cold: Luke Morris set to return on Friday after cryotherapy sessions
Luke Morris hopes to be back race riding at York on Friday after using cryotherapy to speed his recovery from a foot injury.
Widely regarded as Britain's hardest-working jockey, the reigning all-weather champion got the green light to return from his consultant on Monday morning and plans to be back riding out on Tuesday.
Morris, sidelined with a foot injury he sustained at Doncaster on May 18, has put himself through temperatures as low as -130C to get himself back in the saddle.
The 30-year-old, who has had more than 1500 rides in four of the last five seasons, suffered a badly bruised and swollen foot when his mount Hunni became upset in the stalls before a 1m2f fillies' handicap on Town Moor before being withdrawn.
Remarkably he then rode in the last two races on the card and only later took himself to hospital where his injuries were discovered.
Morris booked himself into a cryotherapy chamber, which uses extremely low temperatures to aid recovery, in conjunction with regular physiotherapy on the injury.
"Luke is hoping to be back riding on Friday," said the rider's agent Neil Allan on Monday. "He's not in any pain now and the consultant gave him the thumbs up this morning. He'll be back riding out tomorrow and hopefully it will be all systems go for Royal Ascot.
"There's never a good time to be out but as his main stable Sir Mark Prescott is quiet, Luke hasn't missed a lot and hopefully he can pick up some rides in the handicaps and two-year-old races at Royal Ascot next week."
Morris is already booked to ride the Tom Clover-trained Cheer The Title in a 1m2f handicap at York and is pencilled in to ride for Archie Watson in the 6f seller.
