Leading Triumph hope Goshen 'in great order' for Haydock test

Racegoers at Haydock are set for a winter treat on Saturday with exciting Triumph Hurdle contender Goshen ‘in great order’ prior to contesting the Unibet Victor Ludorum Juvenile Hurdle on the Grand National trial card.

The Gary Moore-trained Goshen is unbeaten in three starts over hurdles, recording an average winning distance of 23 lengths, and is joint 9-2 favourite for the Triumph alongside Allmankind with many firms. He is a best price 5-1 with Ladbrokes.

The recent honour roll for the £20,000 event at the Merseyside track includes subsequent Ryanair Chase hero Frodon and narrow Triumph second Top Notch.

Moore said: “Goshen is all set for Haydock on Saturday and I can’t wait to run him. He’s in great order.

“He’s a very straightforward type to train, has loads of ability and makes my life very easy! He's a very nice horse.”

Triumph trial winner Botox Has has entries in the Triumph and Ballymore but is set to swerve Cheltenham with connections eyeing the 888Sport-sponsored Adonis Juvenile Hurdle at Kempton on Saturday week before a trip to Aintree.

The John Stone-owned four-year-old has won two of his three hurdling starts in Britain and finished second to Allmankind at Cheltenham on his sole defeat.

Moore said: “We’re aiming Botox Has at the Adonis and then he’ll run at Aintree. He’s had a bit of a break as he came over from France, where he had been running early in the season, and we felt a break would do him good. He’s a lovely horse and I like him a lot.”

The trainer also confirmed that Traffic Fluide will run at Ascot on Saturday and has been campaigned around a tilt at the Grand National, while he took plenty of encouragement from A Toi Phil's fourth behind Native River in the Betfair Denman Chase on his stable debut on Saturday.

Moore, who is considering options at Wincanton and Lingfield for novice hurdle winner Black Gerry, said: “I was very pleased with A Toi Phil on Saturday and he surprised us a little. As long as he gets in the National we’ll be happy, but as low a weight as possible would be great!

“Traffic Fluide has been trained for the National and he’ll run at Ascot in either the Ascot Chase or the handicap chase at Saturday.”
