St Mark's Basilica takes lead in Cartier Horse of the Year standings
St Mark's Basilica heads the Cartier Horse of the Year standings after his impressive victory in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown this month.
The son of Siyouni has 112 points after beating Saudi Cup winner Mishriff and Addeybb in the Group 1, adding to his Classic victories in the Poule d'Essai des Poulains and Prix du Jockey Club this season.
He is 16 points clear at the top from Queen Anne Stakes winner Palace Pier and 2,000 Guineas and St James's Palace Stakes winner Poetic Flare, who are on 96 points, while he also heads the Three-Year-Old Colt division.
Palace Pier remains the leader in the Older Horse category, while 1,000 Guineas winner Mother Earth – second in the Falmouth Stakes last week – leads the Three-Year-Old Filly division with 88 points.
Subjectivist was ruled out for the season due to injury following his Ascot Gold Cup victory, but that success at the royal meeting put him top of the Stayer division with 60 points.
July Cup scorer Starman has joined Oxted – who was third at Newmarket – at the top of the Sprinter category on 48 points.
