'She can win in Group company' - unlucky losers on day two at Goodwood

The second day of Glorious Goodwood saw some tremendous winning performances, including Baaeed's dazzling success in the Sussex Stakes, but there was also a fair share of hard-luck stories. Here are a few of those who looked unlucky on Wednesday...

1.50 Goodwood

He wasn't an unlucky loser in the traditional sense but a slow start, a stop-start gallop and his track position all contributed to his downfall. He caught the eye with his finishing effort to fare the best of those held up and will be interesting if upped to 1m6f, the Melrose at York's Ebor fixture appealing as a possible short-term target.

Samahram
2.25 Goodwood

In contrast, Samahram was denied racing room for the best part of a furlong and a half and looked desperately unlucky in the Group 3 Oak Tree. Frankie Dettori had no option but to sit and wait for a gap and when things finally opened up there was just not enough time to peg back the more prominently ridden winner and runner-up, both of whom got first run. This was only her fourth start and she's capable of winning in Group company, especially back over further.

The Attorney
5.20 Goodwood

Although Lyndon B came from further back in the field than The Attorney in a race that suited the closers, the latter would have pushed him closer had he not been chopped for room at a crucial stage with just over a furlong to run. He deserves credit for getting rolling again so quickly, extending his run of creditable efforts. He's equally effective on all-weather surfaces and he can make amends in similar company.
