Racing League 2022: TV details, team line-ups, fixture dates, tickets and more

The Racing League makes its return for a second season on Thursday, with the action starting at Doncaster and finishing at Newcastle on September 15.

There are some important changes, so here is everything you need to know about the Racing League 2022.

What is it?

After making its debut in 2021, the Racing League is back. The competition has been streamlined with 12 sponsored teams replaced by seven regional line-ups: Scotland, the North, Ireland, Yorkshire, Wales and the West, the East, London and the South.

These seven teams will compete across 42 races in six meetings held every Thursday evening. Each field is capped at 14 and there will be two participants from each team in the race.

The league functions as a points-based tournament with 100 points available per race. First place will gain 25 points, while points are spread all the way down to tenth position; a single point is available to the tenth-placed horse.

Six of the seven races each week are handicap contents, featuring horses that are aged three and above and rated 0-90. The other race is open to two-year-old horses rated 0-85.

For the three-year-old contests, there is a £50,000 pot for every race, while for the two-year-old races the figure is set at £25,000. The overall prize-money for the league has been boosted by £200,000 to reach £2 million.

Who's involved?

After some participation issues last year, jockey selections were decided by draft with Frankie Dettori one of many high-profile names due to take part. Dettori is joined by David Egan and last year's Derby-winning jockey Adam Kirby for Wales and the West. Other star names include Tom Marquand for Ireland, Sean Levey for London and the South, and Hayley Turner for the East.

Team managers also provide some noteworthy participants. Among the managers are ITV Racing's Matt Chapman for London and the South, trainer Jamie Osborne for Wales and the West, and former footballer and trainer Mick Quinn for the North.

When is it and how can I watch?

Every Thursday night, starting this week on August 4 through to September 15. You can watch each race live on Sky Sports Racing and ITV4.

Where is it?

The league will take place across five UK racecourses: Doncaster, Lingfield, Newcastle, Windsor and Southwell.

Tickets range from just £15 for advance grandstand admission to £140 for private hospitality.

How do I decide who to bet on?

With the league offering a new format, it can be a little hard to judge who to back. Frankie Dettori begins in an unfamiliar role as the 100-1 outsider to be crowned top jockey, while Daniel Muscutt leads the betting at 8-1. The East are 5-2 favourites to win the whole competition, followed by Wales and the West at 4-1.
