Punter wins £40,000 off £2 Lucky 15 - but goes close to £300,000 payout

A Betfair punter landed more than £40,000 following a successful Lucky 15 bet on Kempton's Saturday evening card, and was one victory away from winning a total of more than £300,000 after a five-fold was denied in the final race.

The punter, who is based in Britain according to Betfair, landed £40,491,10 when all four horses included in a £2 Lucky 15 bet all won at the all-weather fixture.

The bet included Lordsbridge Girl, who defeated odds-on favourite Asdaa in the mile handicap, before Floating Spirit obliged in the 7f handicap and Kiwano landed the 6f handicap.

The Lucky 15 haul was completed when Imperial Sands held on to win the other mile handicap on the card under Hollie Doyle.

The punter had also placed a separate each-way five-fold with a stake of £3.21, which included all four of the horses in the Lucky 15 and required the David Simcock-trained Oriental Art to win the concluding 1m3f handicap.

The customer would have won an extra £269,044,63 had Oriental Art obliged, but despite coming into contention two furlongs out he eventually finished fourth.

Betfair spokesperson Barry Orr said: "They've landed a right touch. They wanted Oriental Art for over £260,000 and even if he had finished third they'd have got a good return off the five-fold, too. For a Saturday night sit-at-home punter, it was a real nice touch.

"It added a bit of spice to the FA Cup third round Saturday evening for sure. They could have landed nearly £300,000 but it wasn't to be. They've hit the crossbar, but still come away with over £40,000, which isn't an insignificant sum for his investment."
