Irish Champion Stakes result keeps leader in charge of Ten To Follow standings
Magical's superb second win in the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown on Saturday was the biggest points haul of a busy week for Tote Ten To Follow players.
The tenacious mare's seventh Group 1 win earned her 55.8 points and saw her reverse form with her Juddmonte International conqueror Ghaiyyath (13.02), a result which kept longtime leader Teleprompter 1 at the top of the pile as they have both the Irish Champion Stakes first and second in their team.
It was also a result which saw Magical leap above Ghaiyyath in the battle to be crowned the game's leading horse, as she now has 123.72 points this season compared to the Godolphin superstar's 121.42.
However, Teleprompter 1's advantage over the pack has been cut to less than 16 points, with JD's Last Throw of the Bottle also having the first two home at Leopardstown in addition to Mogul.
The Grand Prix de Paris winner was another significant point scorer in a busy week of Group-race action at Doncaster, on Irish Champions Weekend and in France, with Aidan O'Brien's former Derby contender picking up 37.7 points for his two-and-a-half length win at Longchamp.
Tarnawa's impressive Prix Vermeille win for trainer Dermot Weld earned the filly 33.7 points, with Anthony Van Dyck's scalp of Stradivarius in a tactical Prix Foy landing his followers 26.6 points.
At the Curragh on Sunday, Search For A Song (33.1) was the pick of the point-scorers, with Glass Slippers (32.8), Cayenne Pepper (24.5) and Mr Lupton (17.2) all increasing their seasonal tallies.
Spanish Mission (23.5) and Tarboosh (23.7) were the big points earners at Doncaster's four-day St Leger meeting, with last year's Leger winner Logician (11.1) also among the scorers.
Frankel filly Queen Daenerys was a Listed winner at Longchamp last Thursday and scooped 20.7 points, while Trueshan (13.6) and Tis Marvellous (14) earned their followers some points in small-field conditions races at Salisbury and Leicester respectively.
This week's bonus race is the Ayr Gold Cup, which offers 25 extra points for the winner and 12 points for the runner-up on Saturday.
