Doug Watson, six-time champion trainer in the UAE, became the first to go through the card at Meydan when he saddled six winners at the track on Thursday.

A seemingly stunned Watson said: "We have such a great team at home and this is down to them, the staff, the jockeys and of course the owners. I cannot stress enough just how big a team effort it is."

Rio Gold kickstarted Watson's record-breaking day with an easy success at 10-11 in the 7f fillies' maiden under Pat Dobbs, who went on to partner five of Watson's winners.

Trenchard (11-2) and Mulfit (8-13) made it a quickfire hat-trick for the duo before Dane O'Neill struck on Waady at 14-1 in the feature 6f handicap. Tried And True (100-30) and Midnight Sands (5-4) then completed the 2,418-1 six-timer.

Watson added: “Midnight Sands is a nice horse and we were very confident because he has strengthened up over the summer and we thought he was well treated. Hopefully he's going be a proper horse.”
