Bruce Millington is to stand down as editor of the Racing Post after 11 years in the role.

The 51-year-old said on Friday: "It has been the most wonderful, exciting and fulfilling time, but I am keen to take a bit of a breather.

"I am delighted that I will continue to contribute to the Racing Post on a part-time basis, working on special projects as well as writing and broadcasting.

"The Racing Post is a wonderful place to work and I'm delighted to still be involved in what will hopefully be an exciting future for the business and its fantastic staff."

Millington will continue as editor until his successor has been appointed.

Racing Post chief executive Alan Byrne said: "Bruce's contribution to the Racing Post has been immense. He has been an outstanding editor and has built a superb team. He has shown unwavering commitment to providing our customers with the best possible service in print and on our digital platforms. We all owe him a huge debt of gratitude – no one could have done a better job.

"I understand Bruce's reasons for wanting to step back from what is a hugely demanding job. I am delighted that Racing Post customers and staff will still have the considerable benefit of his knowledge and flair when Bruce takes on a role as editorial consultant later in the year."
