Brian Hayes succeeds as charge and 14-day ban reduced on appeal
Brian Hayes has won his appeal against a 14 day-ban imposed on him for alleged dangerous riding at Killarney on July 15.
Hayes was banned after the stewards inquired into an incident before the second-last fence in a handicap chase in which his mount Rock Road badly hampered the Paul Cawley-ridden Mister Butler, causing that rival to unseat his rider.
Hayes claimed that Rock Road, who was disqualified from third place, had cocked his jaw and attempted to run out approaching the fence.
The appeal, which took two hours to be dealt with, was heard at Galway racecourse on Monday and the appeals body of the IHRB reduced the charge against Hayes from "dangerous riding" to "careless riding", and cut his ban from 14 days to two days (July 29 and July 30).
Rock Road was reinstated to third place, while equestrian coach Yogi Breisner gave evidence in support of Hayes at the hearing.
