Juvenile gems: here are this week's races which could provide the next superstar

New stars of the Flat are set to emerge this week as three days of outstanding action kick off on Thursday when Newmarket hosts an abundance of top two-year-old races.

Last season the likes of Coroebus and Modern Games appeared at the meeting and this year's fields are likely to offer plenty of clues for next season's Classics and beyond.

Turners British EBF Maiden Stakes (1.15)

1m, Thursday

It may not be a Group race, but a scan through the recent winners suggest the opener is one not to miss with Telescope (2012), Eminent (2016) and Ghaiyyath (2017) among recent winners.

Of those with form in the book, King Me is the standout, but all eyes will be on Adayar's brother, Military Order, on his debut. Garden Route, Rajasthan and Regal Honour also boast exceptional pedigrees.

Tattersalls Stakes (3.00)

7f, Group 3, Thursday

Until Modern Games took this race last season it had been a little while since it had produced a really top-class performer although 2019 winner Wichita came close to Guineas glory the following spring, when beaten just a neck by Kameko.

Perhaps the success of Modern Games, who landed a third top-level win in Canada on Saturday night, will herald a revival. Godolphin trainer Charlie Appleby has won this for the last two seasons and Superlative Stakes runner-up Victory Dance appears his main hope this time.

Holloway Boy, who caused an upset on his debut in the Chesham Stakes, is entered along with the once-raced and impressive Nostrum. The pair have the Royal Lodge as an option later this week.

Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Rockfel Stakes (3.00)

7f fillies, Group 2, Friday

With Group 1 prizes available for fillies over a similar distance in Ireland and France around this point in the season, the Rockfel is not typically one of the stronger Group 2 races.

However, some high-quality fillies have won the race, including Just The Judge, who went on to Classic success after her 2012 victory.

Commissioning made quite an impression when successful on her debut in July and tops the betting. She is as short as 16-1 for next year's 1,000 Guineas and looks a hugely exciting talent for the John and Thady Gosden stable.

Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes (1.50)

1m, Group 2, Saturday

With past winners including Frankel and Roaring Lion, the Royal Lodge sells itself.

Last year's race proved particularly informative as this year's 2,000 Guineas winner Coroebus shot to the front before surprisingly getting caught late by Royal Patronage.

A classy line-up appear on course for this race with Godolphin's Sandown and Salisbury winner Flying Honours and the unbeaten Superlative Stakes winner Isaac Shelby among the entries along with a host of Ballydoyle-based youngsters.

Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes (2.25)

6f fillies, Group 1, Saturday

Two top-level juvenile races over six furlongs top the bill on Saturday with some of the best fillies around descending on Newmarket for the Cheveley Park Stakes. It features an illustrious roll of honour, with 2020 winner Alcohol Free the most recent example of a filly who went on to develop into an outstanding three-year-old.

Moyglare runner-up Meditate and Flying Childers winner Trillium set the standard but have already run this month and would be reappearing after less than a fortnight. Lezoo, Swingalong and the lightly raced Juliet Sierra are other interesting fillies.

Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes (3.00)

6f, Group 1, Saturday

Europe's next sprinting sensation could emerge here, just as Ten Sovereigns and Perfect Power have in recent years.

Sakheer looked capable of great things when successful in the Mill Reef Stakes just last Saturday, while Persian Force and Blackbeard have been performing consistently in major races. It was the latter who came out on top in the Prix Morny last time.

The Karl Burke-trained Marshman is also right in the mix after his second to Noble Style in the Gimcrack last time.
