Josh Moore in hospital with injuries sustained in Plumpton fall
Jockey Josh Moore has fractured his vertebra and broken ribs after a nasty fall at Plumpton on Monday.
Moore was riding three-time hurdle winner Botox Has on his chase debut for his father Gary in the Bob Champion Cancer Trust Novices' Chase when falling at the 11th fence.
The fall knocked Moore unconscious and the 29-year-old was taken to hospital after receiving treatment at the course.
Moore’s sister Hayley, who was at the track covering the meeting for Sky Sports Racing, confirmed the news via an update on Twitter on Tuesday morning that Moore had fractured his vertebra and broken ribs.
The race was won by Niall Houlihan aboard the Richard Rowe-trained Up The Straight, with the conditional jockey stepping in for Moore in the next race, the 2m handicap hurdle, steering odds-on favourite Royaume Uni to success to bring up a quickfire treble, kickstarted by Hackbridge for Pat Phelan.
While Gary Moore was pleased that his conditional jockey had enjoyed a landmark day there was understandably concern for his son, who has suffered a number of serious injuries in his career.
Speaking on Tuesday morning, Gary Moore said: "He’s still in hospital at the moment and he’s waiting to have another MRI scan today. The horse is fine."
Josh Moore had his best season of 40 winners in the 2020-21 campaign, including the Grade 3 Close Brothers Red Rum Handicap Chase aboard Editeur Du Gite at Aintree, and has had five winners from 39 rides so far this term.
