Joseph Parr flying high after tumultuous start to training career
Joseph Parr has celebrated three winners in the last seven days after overcoming a baptism of fire in his first season as a trainer.
He had been advised against entering the profession by his grandfather Alan Bailey, whose training career lasted almost 40 years, and his concern proved to be well founded following the cessation of racing.
Parr, who sent out his first runner in March, was forced to turn out the majority of his horses but has been rewarded for his resilience, with five winners from 16 runners since taking out his licence.
"We've really turned a corner," said Parr. "It has taken a while to get the horses fit again but they're bouncing at home. We're working hard to find the right races and they're delivering.
"I was warned against training by my family but I always said I'd give it a few seasons and if it didn't work I'd get a normal job. If I can make the dream last I'll keep going as long as possible.
"I'd have been happy with five winners this season, considering I've got 16 horses in, so it's great to have hit that target already. We've still got a few horses to run who can hopefully add to that.
"We're going to celebrate this run and in time hopefully attract some new owners. We're aiming high and want to get to a stage when we have Group horses and plenty of stock to work with."
Parr has won with five different horses and singled out Enigmatic, who could run at Sandown on August 22, as a horse to follow. He also has high hopes for one of his juveniles Prince Of Bel Lir.
"Enigmatic won really well at Leicester on Monday," added Parr. "He came from last to first in a race in which the pace held up."
