John Queally hopes to break Royal Ascot duck with consistent Arcadian Sunrise
John Queally will once again bid to add Royal Ascot glory to his CV when he sends Arcadian Sunrise to tackle the Ascot Stakes on the festival’s opening day.
It has been twelve years since Queally last had a runner in the Ascot Stakes, when Elyaadi finished second behind Junior in the 2010 edition, before finishing second and fifth in the Queen Alexandra Stakes the following two seasons.
Arcadian Sunrise has won seven of his 17 career starts with his most notable success being the Sky Bet Handicap at York last August, when he comfortably accounted for a solid field to back up his Galway festival win over hurdles.
The son of Arcadio has failed to finish in the top four on only three occasions and arrives at Ascot fresh after a cracking run in the Chester Cup when fourth on his seasonal reappearance. He will tackle 2m4f for the first time on the Flat on Tuesday.
Queally said: "He has his chance and I suppose that’s all you can say. He’s in good form.
"I was pleased with him in Chester. He ran a bit of fresh maybe as it was his first run of the season, but I was happy with him.
"I don’t think the extra distance will pose any problems. The day he won in York it looked as though he’d get further. He won well at the line and he should be okay."
On the prospect of landing a first Royal Ascot success, the four-time Grade 1-winning trainer added: "We’ve hit the crossbar a few times over there so it’d be great to get one.
"He’s been consistent, that’s the word to describe him. He’s won on all sorts of ground, but he’s probably better suited to better ground."
Arcadian Sunrise is a general 8-1 shot for Tuesday’s event, while fellow Irish raider Bring On The Night heads the market at around 5-1.
