Jockey Gavin Sheehan misses ride at Aintree on Friday after failing breath test
Gavin Sheehan was stood down from his only ride at Aintree on Friday after stewards confirmed he had failed a breathalyser test.
The jockey was replaced by Davy Russell aboard Speech Bubble in the opening Grade 3 20 Years Together, Alder Hey & Aintree Handicap Hurdle, won by Langer Dan, while Speech Bubble finished 11th.
The BHA stewards' report read: "The jockey sampling officer reported that Gavin Sheehan had provided a sample that was found to contain alcohol above the threshold level for breath samples.
"The rider and the sampling officer were interviewed. The matter was referred to the head office of the British Horseracing Authority and Sheehan was stood down from riding for the rest of the day."
Sheehan had four rides at Ffos Las on Thursday and is due to ride Git Maker at Newcastle on Saturday. He also has two rides booked at Stratford on Sunday with Arbennig and Taylors Three Rock.
The multiple Grade 1-winning jockey brought his career tally to 500 winners at Bangor in January and his biggest success came when partnering Cole Harden to land the 2015 Ladbrokes World Hurdle.
He was Britain's champion conditional in 2013-14 when attached to Warren Greatrex and has had a long association with owners Kate and Andrew Brooks, although he was not on board the Olly Murphy-trained Itchy Feet when he was pulled up in Thursday's Betway Bowl.
