Jim Goldie's excellent run continues with horse named after his grandson

Jim Goldie's terrific season continued as the trainer landed a 338.5-1 double at his local track, including a family success with the well-named Rory in the 5f handicap.

Renfrewshire-based Goldie, who has landed big-race victories this season in the Northumberland Plate with Nicholas T and Brigadier Gerard hero Euchen Glen, took his strike-rate over the the last two weeks to 26 per cent with the three-year-old, who won after Jessie Allan's 40-1 shock success in the 6f handicap.

He said: "It's great fun at the moment. It was really good Rory won because he's named after one of my grandsons, Jack and Dexter had theirs (with Jack Dexter), so it isn't a bad formula.

"Tommy G is named after one as well, but my granddaughters are a wee bit miffed because whenever I've tried it with the fillies it didn't work. I wasn't shocked with Jessie Allan either, I knew she wasn't as bad as the market suggested and she would bounce back.

"It's helped my £1 level stake anyway. My wife had a four-timer on yesterday with little pennies that came in too so she'll be dancing in the streets."
