Teenage sensation James Bowen was referred to the IHRB referrals' committee after leaving Gowran Park on Thursday without permission despite having been reportedly instructed to remain at the track for a stewards' inquiry.

Bowen, who had earlier finished second in a handicap hurdle on the Gordon Elliott-trained Graineyhill, rode the same trainer's Out Sam to finish sixth in the feature Goffs Thyestes Handicap Chase.

IHRB veterinary officer Lynn Hillier had observed that the gelding had been marked with the whip post-race and that the marks were still evident an hour later.

Bowen had been put on notice by IHRB official Liam Walsh that he would be required to attend a stewards' inquiry on the matter and not to leave the track.

However, on attempting to hold the inquiry later in the afternoon officials were unable to do so as Bowen had reportedly left the track without permission. In view of this, the raceday stewards sent the matter to the referrals committee for further investigation.
