'It's my biggest ever win!' - punters' joy after Tom Segal's 2,267-1 four-timer
Pricewise followers were rejoicing on Saturday after Tom Segal produced a stunning 2,267-1 four-timer from his selections in just four races.
Segal's selections, available to Members' Club Ultimate subscribers and buyers of Saturday's Racing Post newspaper, began with the well-backed favourite Up For Parol at Haydock, before Enqarde (8-1) saw out the stamina test of the Tommy Whittle Handicap Chase best and Annsam (7-1) put his best foot forward in the Silver Cup at Ascot.
Tom Segal's stunning Saturday
2.05 Haydock: Up For Parol (5-2) WON
2.40 Haydock: Enqarde (8-1) WON
3.00 Ascot: Annsam (7-1) WON
3.35 Ascot: Tritonic (8-1) WON
3.35 Ascot: Garry Clermont (9-1) 3rd
Segal had two tips in the concluding race of ITV4's coverage, the Betfair Exchange Trophy, and Tritonic sealed a remarkable afternoon when running out the 8-1 winner, with other selection Garry Clermont (9-1) not far behind in third.
Speaking after his tipping feat, Segal said: "Haydock and Ascot are among my favourite tracks. I was hopeful my selections would all run well last night but they still had to go out and do it.
"I've been doing this a while now and it's one of my best day's tipping."
A number of winning punters posted their betting slips on social media, including Andrew Broughton, who won £4,500 from just a £4.50 stake. He placed a series of 50p trebles and accumulators on Segal's selections.
"I've always followed Pricewise and Paul Kealy," said the 40-year-old, an electrical engineer from Bolton. "I worked this morning before watching all of the racing this afternoon. It's my biggest-ever win and I know results like that don't come along too often.
"We've just bought a 65-inch TV, which I'll be able to pay off straight away, and we're doing up the living room so it will help to pay for that. I'll be using the new TV to watch all the racing and football."
Another punter won £10,830 from a £1 Lucky 15 and £1 each-way accumulator with independent Welsh bookmaker Evans and James, whose Trefor Evans did not mind paying out to a valued customer.
"I think the winner will buy me a pint or two," said Evans. "I rang him and he told me he's been gambling since he was 15. He's about 67 now and it's his biggest winner. He was in shock when I phoned.
"He's been a regular customer since the shop opened 40 years ago. I'm over the moon for the guy. He's got no idea how he's going to spend the money but his granddaughter watched the last race with him and asked him for some money. He always follows Pricewise."
Coral spokesman Dave Stevens said: "Christmas came early for Pricewise followers, with his quartet of well-backed winners ensuring the final Saturday before the festive break was one to forget for the layers."
With a busy festive period of racing coming up, including the King George VI Chase, Welsh National, Leopardstown's four-day Christmas festival and Cheltenham's New Year's Day meeting, Pricewise will be in action plenty more in the coming weeks.
