'It's disappointing' - Nottingham's meeting cancelled following heavy rainfall
Wednesday's meeting at Nottingham has been cancelled after a deluge of rain throughout the week left the track waterlogged in places on raceday morning.
Officials called an inspection for 7am with the course hit by 34mm of rain over the weekend and into Tuesday, but a further 12mm overnight has left the track unraceable with standing water in places.
"We had 20mm rain over the weekend and another 14mm from Monday into Tuesday, we walked the track yesterday and it seemed fine, but rain has caused areas to become unraceable," clerk of the course Tom Ryall said.
"We were expecting 4mm, but got 12mm in total and I wasn't comfortable with some sections of the track. Safety and welfare is paramount and at the forefront of our minds."
The card, which was due to feature the Listed Ben Marshall Stakes, was set to be Nottingham's last raceday of the season and the penultimate meeting on the turf on the Flat for the year.
"It's disappointing to lose it as we'd done all we could to get the fixture on and avoid the areas of standing water by moving plenty of rail," Ryall added.
"But sections of the track were unraceable and unavoidable where water remained in key areas, and we have to take safety first."
Wednesday's meeting at Happy Valley has also been cancelled with Severe Tropical Storm Nalgae set to hit Hong Kong during the day.
