Willie Mullins' exciting hurdler Anzadam ruled out for rest of the season

Anzadam makes a mess of the last, but it doesn't stop him running out an impressive winner of the Grade 3 hurdle

Anzadam, a 10-1 shot for the Unibet Champion Hurdle, has been ruled out for the season.

The five-year-old backed up his stable debut win at Fairyhouse with an 11-length success at Naas in the Limestone Lad Hurdle on Sunday.

However, during that race he picked up an injury that will curtail his campaign.

Mullins told Sporting Life: "Unfortunately Anzadam picked up a little injury at Naas and won’t be ready for Aintree. I don’t feel it’s prudent to try and rush him back for Punchestown so he’ll miss the remainder of the season.”

The top trainer had been considering targeting the Aintree Hurdle at the Grand National meeting in April.

Anzadam's owners Joe and Marie Donnelly could still be represented in the Champion Hurdle with last year's winner State Man, who is a 10-1 shot behind 4-5 favourite Constitution Hill.
