Barry Connell is adamant Marine Nationale is still a big contender for the Champion Chase in March and has warned racing fans not to write off his star as he gears up for a festive clash with Gaelic Warrior.

Last year's emphatic Supreme Novices' Hurdle winner was sent off odds-on favourite for his third chase start and seasonal reappearance at Naas last month, but could only finish second to Quilixios.

However, Connell expects dramatic improvement in the Grade 1 Paddy's Rewards Club Chase at Leopardstown on December 27 under new rider Sean Flanagan.
