Trainers Tom Gibney, Jimmy Mangan, Eric McNamara, Ger Keane and Pat O'Donnell have been recognised for their exploits this year by earning nominations for honours at the 2024 Horse Racing Ireland (HRI) awards which will be presented in Dublin early next month.

Mangan, who saddled Spillane's Tower to two Grade 1 wins last season, is among the nominees for the National Hunt Achievement award, a category that also includes Irish Grand National-winning trainer Gibney, Martin Brassil, Shark Hanlon, McNamara and jockeys Sam Ewing and Danny Mullins.

The Flat Achievement award will be decided between trainers Keane, Donnacha O'Brien, John Murphy, Pat O'Donnell and jockeys Chris Hayes and Wayne Lordan.

There are five nominees for the National Hunt award which consist of champion jockey Jack Kennedy, champion trainer Willie Mullins, Gavin Cromwell, JJ Slevin and Paul Townend, while Aidan O'Brien is the only trainer to be nominated for the Flat award, along with champion jockey Colin Keane, Dylan Browne McMonagle and Ryan Moore.

Cheltenham Festival winners Galopin Des Champs, State Man and Teahupoo are in contention for the Horse of the Year award with champion stayer Kyprios, and prolific three-year-olds City Of Troy and Porta Fortuna representing the Flat.

David Christie, Shane Cotter, Rob James, Emmet Mullins and Barry O'Neill were put forward for the point-to-point award, while the Emerging Talent award will be decided between champion apprentice James Ryan, Wayne Hassett, Carl Millar, Alex Harvey and Keithen Kennedy.

Racecourse of the Year and Ride of the Year will be decided by racing fans with the nominees to be announced in the coming weeks. The other categories will be chosen via a ballot of the HRI awards committee, made up of members of sections of the Irish racing media.

Suzanne Eade, CEO of Horse Racing Ireland, said: “Irish racing has given us so much to celebrate both at home and abroad over the past 12 months. There have been some wonderful stories and achievements and I send my best wishes to all those nominated for our annual awards.

"I'm excited racing fans and racegoers are being asked to help decide the winner of the Racecourse of the Year award in addition to the Ride of the Year award this time.”
