Sam Ewing believes Drinmore winner Croke Park will relish the step back up above three miles at Leopardstown on Thursday as he kicks off an exceptional book of Grade 1 rides over a pivotal festive period for trainer Gordon Elliott.

The former pony racing star and promising apprentice on the Flat has become an integral part of the Cullentra set-up since switching to the jumps, deputising as stable jockey since Jack Kennedy broke his leg for the sixth time at Fairyhouse last month.

His talents in the saddle were soon on display at Fairyhouse where he gave Croke Park a clever frontrunning ride in the Drinmore, repelling the challenges of Heart Wood and stablemate Firefox in a tactical race dictated by the winning rider.
