Rachael Blackmore set for spell on the sidelines after sustaining injury at Downpatrick on Friday
Rachael Blackmore will be on the sidelines for the coming weeks after suffering a neck injury as a result of a fall from the Henry de Bromhead-trained Hand Over Fist at Downpatrick on Friday.
The Grand National-winning jockey was still in front coming to the second-last in the 2m7½f handicap chase when the seven-year-old took off a stride too early and crashed out. She missed four intended rides at Listowel on Sunday and three on Monday, and will miss Kerry National day at the track on Wednesday.
De Bromhead is set to be represented by Amirite and Toss Again in the €200,000 Guinness Kerry National, with Darragh O'Keeffe and Mike O'Connor declared on the pair. Blackmore has partnered Amirite on 11 of his 13 career starts.
An IHRB official confirmed Blackmore "has sustained a neck injury and will not ride in the coming weeks while she undergoes rehabilitation".
However, the exact nature of the diagnosis or a specific timeframe for her return to the saddle is unclear.
Dual Stayers' Hurdle winner Flooring Porter, 2022 Brown Advisory Novices' Chase scorer The Real Whacker and Zanahiyr are among the main contenders for the Kerry National.
Sam Twiston-Davies will travel over for his first ride at Listowel on board the Patrick Neville-trained The Real Whacker, while Jack Kennedy has elected to partner Zanahiyr out of five contenders for Gordon Elliott.
Gavin Cromwell holds a strong hand with Flooring Porter and Perceval Legallois towards the head of the market, while Desertmore House will bid to follow up last year's victory off a 9lb higher mark for Martin Brassil.
