Jack Kennedy: 'I knew it was broken straight away - it's really tough, but people have been unbelievably nice to me'
David Jennings talks to the top jockey following his latest injury setback
Jack Kennedy said it was too soon to know whether he will recover in time for the Cheltenham Festival in March after suffering a sixth leg break at Fairyhouse on Saturday.
The 25-year-old was speaking publicly for the first time since he fractured the lower tibia of his right leg following a fall from Twoohthree at the final fence of the opening beginners' chase last weekend. He cannoned into Sean O'Keeffe's mount O'Moore Park, who also fell independently, and Kennedy said he knew instantly that he had broken his leg again.
After being crowned Ireland's champion jump jockey for the first time last season following a thrilling tussle with Paul Townend that went right down to the final day at Punchestown, Kennedy went into Saturday on 34 winners for the current campaign and had already won a Grade 1 thanks to Brighterdaysahead's victory in the Morgiana Hurdle at Punchestown.
