The Irish 2,000 Guineas meeting has become the latest fixture to join the World Pool after the Hong Kong Jockey Club announced that the commingled pools will be in operation for the first time for the Curragh Classic on May 24.

Punters from more than 28 countries will be able to bet into the global pool for the Irish 2,000 Guineas, with the card joining a list of 23 other fixtures open to World Pool betting in 2025.

Part of Tattersalls Gold Cup day at the Curragh, held the day after the Irish 2,000 Guineas, will also be available for World Pool betting, while the Lockinge meeting at Newbury a week beforehand (May 17) will see its World Pool coverage increase from five to eight races.

"We are already looking forward to what will be a busy Q2 [second quarter] for World Pool as we anticipate our return to the UK and Ireland for 2025, and we're delighted to have strengthened our offering with a new raceday added at the Curragh, and to have extended Newbury's Lockinge day card to a full World Pool meeting," said Sam Nati, head of commingling at the Hong Kong Jockey Club.

"We're committed to adding the best races from around the globe to the World Pool calendar, so extending our involvement in Lockinge day and taking in the Irish 2,000 Guineas is an exciting development. We look forward to bringing these new races to our global customers as well as returning to some of our best performing meetings at Royal Ascot and on Derby day."

Last year's Derby card, headlined by the triumph of City Of Troy, saw a record World Pool turnover of £38.7 million when coupled alongside four races at Eagle Farm in Australia.

The World Pool has also expanded its reach overseas this year with the addition of the South Australian Derby (May 3), Doomben 10,000 (May 17) and Doomben Cup meeting (May 24), alongside returning cards in South Africa, Dubai and Hong Kong.
