Cheltenham winner Inothewayurthinkin and unbeaten juvenile head Gavin Cromwell's Leopardstown squad
Gavin Cromwell will spend the next week on weather watch for Inothewayurthinkin but is hopeful the Cheltenham Festival winner can headline a strong squad over the festive period in a red-hot Savills Chase.
Having been one of the biggest gambles of the week at Cheltenham last season, Inothewayurthinkin hacked up by eight lengths to justify 13-8 favouritism in the Kim Muir under Derek O'Connor before taking another step forward to land Grade 1 honours at Aintree when defeating Iroko in the Mildmay Novices' Chase.
He returned in last month's John Durkan Chase when last of seven finishers over 2m3½f, but Cromwell was pleased with his jumping and believes the step up to 3m½f in the December 28 Grade 1 will see a better showing.
"The plan is to run Inothewayurthinkin in the Savills." he said. "I thought he ran okay in Punchestown, he jumped really well. When he turned in, the front ones quickened away, but he kept going all the way to the line. He got a little bit tired but two and a half miles would be his minimum and the step up in trip will be a big help."
However, Cromwell warned: "It's a concern with the forecast and the ground. He'll definitely want an ease in it or potentially he might not run."
The six-year-old can be backed at 40-1, while John Durkan winner Fact To File heads the betting at 7-4 for Willie Mullins ahead of stablemate and dual Gold Cup winner Galopin Des Champs at 2-1.
Hello Neighbour is two from two on the Flat for Cromwell having landed a 1m6f maiden at Navan in September before following up at Roscommon when landing a conditions race by three lengths.
He is a best-priced 16-1 for the Triumph Hurdle despite not having jumped a hurdle in public yet, but he is ready to make a start in his new discipline over the Christmas period.
"Hello Neighbour is obviously an interesting three-year-old we are excited about," said Cromwell. "He'll have an entry in the three-year-old maiden hurdle and also in the Grade 2. We'll have a look and see which one we go for. Often the maiden can be nearly as good as the Grade 2."
The Navan trainer will also be represented by Visionarian in the Grade 1 Paddy's Reward Club Chase over 2m1f on December 27 and will saddle a number of handicap contenders over the four days, including Perceval Legallois and Bottler'secret, while Yeah Man will likely wait for the Thyestes at Gowran next month.
Cromwell said: "Visionarian goes for the Grade 1. Obviously on ratings he's going to be a bit behind but hopefully he'd have a place chance. Perceval Legallois has been frustrating and needs everything to fall his way, but hopefully off his mark he could still win one of those big ones. If the ground is on the better side it won't be a problem to him.
"Al Gasparo is in the €100,000 handicap hurdle over two and a half miles and we'll probably go there. Bottler'secret could potentially go there as well and step up in trip. He worked in Navan on Monday with blinkers on and we might stick them on."
Leopardstown clerk of the course Lorcan Wyer said of conditions: "We're yielding, good to yielding in places on the hurdle track and good to yielding, yielding in places on the chase track.
"Watering on the chase track will continue this week and the forecast is breezy and mild, while rainfall amounts are on the lower side."
