Champion Bumper hero Jasmin De Vaux and unbeaten hurdler The Yellow Clay declared for fascinating Grade 1 clash at Naas on Sunday
Champion Bumper winner Jasmin De Vaux and three-time hurdle winner The Yellow Clay feature among eight declarations for the Grade 1 Lawlor's of Naas Novice Hurdle (1.55) on Sunday.
The Cheltenham Festival winner made a flawless start over hurdles when striking by four and a quarter lengths on hurdles debut at Navan in December and will bid to give Ireland's champion trainer Willie Mullins a record-extending tenth win in the race.
Mullins, also seeking a third consecutive victory, runs outsiders Supersundae, Plontier and Spasiba as well.
Gordon Elliott used this race as the springboard for Envoi Allen in 2020 and runs The Yellow Clay, who arrives off the back of victory in a Grade 2 at Navan in December. The Sam Ewing-ridden six-year-old was 12 lengths behind Jasmin De Vaux when sixth at Cheltenham last spring. Wingmen also represents Elliott and Bective Stud.
Butch Cassidy is the only unbeaten runner in the line-up. Henry de Bromhead's five-year-old built on a bumper success when scoring by half a length at Punchestown in November.
Shuffle The Deck was back in third that day but improved on his next start when winning over the course and distance. He will look to give Ted Walsh a first Grade 1 success in almost 20 years.
Majborough was a notable absentee in a field of five for the preceding Racing Post Novice Chase (1.25). Last season's Triumph Hurdle winner was set to step up in grade having won impressively on chase debut at Fairyhouse in December.
JP McManus's best chance is now Aintree Grade 1 winner Inthepocket, who won by 15 lengths on his first start over fences, and he takes on Firefox and Ile Atlantique.
Naas must pass a 7.30am raceday inspection with a risk of heavy snow in the forecast on Saturday night and through Sunday.
