Sweden. Famous for its stunning landscapes, Abba and liberal, egalitarian society. Less so for its racing. But don't worry, if you've no ikea about the sport in Sverige, here's a quick guide ahead of Sunday's meeting, which features a strong team from Britain.

Slowly away
The first known races were held in 1814 to celebrate the king and crown prince's visit to Gothenburg. However, despite the 10,000-strong crowd, it remained a one-off, and racing was held only sporadically for the next few decades.

Totes confusing
Sweden introduced totalisator betting in 1893, but promptly banned it again three years later. It returned in 1923, the same year professional jockeys made their Swedish debut – previously only amateur and military riders had competed.
