Frankie Dettori has dislocated his shoulder after being unseated from his mount before a race at Aqueduct on Thursday.

The legendary jockey became dislodged from the Rudy Rodriguez-trained juvenile Pretty Liza in the starting gate before the ninth and final race, a maiden special weight on turf.

The horse was subsequently scratched and returned to the barn, while Dettori walked into an ambulance and was taken to the nearby Jamaica Hospital. The race was won by Miriam's Fire.

He later posted on X: "I appreciate all the messages. I'm doing OK! I dislocated my right shoulder – my team here in the hospital have put it back together. Thanks for the messages of concern, it means a lot."

The rider has since left hospital and an announcement clarifying whether he will ride at Friday's Aqueduct meeting is expected later on Friday morning. He is booked to ride six horses, including Hit That Review for Brendan Walsh in the first race at 1.05pm local time (6.05pm BST).

Dettori, 53, relocated to the United States after abandoning plans to retire at the end of last year. Since moving, he has enjoyed Grade 1 success on the Bob Baffert-trained Newgate in the Santa Anita Handicap and Beaute Cachee in the Jenny Wiley Stakes.

Last month he teamed up with Andrew Balding to land the Grade 3 Nashville Derby with the Derby seventh Bellum Justum, while earlier this month he used his connection with Aidan O'Brien to partner Greenfinch, Mountain Bear and Chief Little Rock at Kentucky Downs.
