Singapore extend suspension of racing until June as Covid-19 restrictions upped
The suspension of racing in Singapore has been extended to June 1 to reflect the government’s policy of fighting the coronavirus pandemic.
A statement on the Singapore Turf Club’s website read: “In alignment with the government’s extension of the circuit breaker on 21 April 2020, all Singapore race meetings will continue to be suspended until 1 June 2020.
"The club will continue to evaluate and adapt our business operations in line with prevailing advisories from the multi-ministry taskforce and relevant agencies.”
It added: “The safety and wellbeing of visitors and the horseracing community remains the Club’s top priority as we take precautionary measures to reduce the spread of the virus.”
The previous restrictions, which were announced on April 4, were put in place until at least May 4.
The latest guidelines cast fresh doubt over whether the Singapore Derby, originally scheduled for April 18, will be run.
