'See you at the races' - Jamie Kah successful in appeal against additional ban
Leading Australian jockey Jamie Kah could return as early as next week after successfully appealing against a two-month ban for misleading stewards after breaching Covid-19 lockdown guidelines.
Kah was one of five jockeys suspended by Racing Victoria for breaking strict lockdown rules when hosting an AirBnb party at Victoria's Mornington Peninsula on August 25.
Initially handed a three-month ban, the jockey was given a further suspension of two months by the Victorian Racing Tribunal for supplying misleading information to stewards but the additional sanction was thrown out following a Supreme Court appeal on Wednesday.
Kah expressed her delight at the ruling and wrote on Twitter: "I'm obviously very happy with the outcome. It's now time to move forward. I can't wait to get back to what I love: riding and being part of our amazing industry."
The 25-year-old, whose suspension now ends on November 25, added: "Thanks to everyone who has said kind words to me or provided moral support over the last three months, it has been a real comfort through very tough times.
"As I said last time, I won't be making any further public comment. See you at the races!"
Kah will be the first of the five suspended jockeys to return to the track after Justice Richard Niall ruled the jockey had not intentionally misled stewards during the investigation.
The ban caused Kah to miss this month's Melbourne Cup, which she finished third in last year on the Charlie Fellowes-trained Prince Of Arran.
Mark Zahra, Ben Melham, Ethan Brown and Celine Gaudray were the other riders found to have breached Covid-19 protocols in August's illegal gathering.
